Weekly Newsletter 8/16/10

**NOTES TO PARENTS**
Also please make sure your child has a school planner. This will be used all year to keep up with homework and also as a communication tool between home and school. Parents need to sign homework planners nightly.

During our reading time this year I will pull groups of students (usually 6 to 7 students) for 15 to 20 minute blocks of time. I will work with each group at their reading level. The other students will work at their tables. This week in Reading I will assess the students to determine which reading groups they will be placed in.

Students will also be required to read 15 minutes each night (Monday thru Thursday). They will keep a reading log that is due on Friday of each week.

We will start learning our multiplication tables soon. I am asking that every child bring in 2-100 packs of white index cards so the children can make their own flashcards. This will help them learn them by writing them and then actually using them to practice in the classroom.

Please feel free to contact me through the school at 721-4205 or email misty_fite@yahoo.com.

** WHAT WE ARE LEARNING**
In Phonics, we will review consonants and vowels.

In Math, we are reviewing telling time, graphing data on a bar graph, identifying digits and writing two-digit numbers, and identifying addends, sums, and the commutative property of addition.

In writing and language arts, we will review sentence structure.

In Science, we will be learning about physical science.

In Social Studies, the class will learn about our democratic heritage.

We will start spelling words next week.
