Weekly Newsletter 1/4/10

I hope everyone had a nice relaxing holiday break. I want to thank all the students for making the first semester great. Thank you to all the parents and students for my wonderful Christmas presents. I loved them all.

I hope all the students as well as parents are ready for a very busy and productive second semester.

Everyday the students will take a sample mini-test of a couple of concepts that might be on the AIMS test. I want them to be as familiar with the format as possible.
We will also be working very hard on multiplication. Please work with your student at home on the facts.

Students will be writing a lot this semester. We are working on a project in conjunction with the other 3rd grade classes.

** WHAT WE ARE LEARNING**

In Phonics, we will review the vcv syllable division, accent, and schwa.

In Math, we will be learning how to square numbers, identifying perfect squares, showing three and four-digit numbers using base ten blocks, subtracting facts, following a recipe, and setting a dial and determining elapsed time.

In writing and language arts, we will review adverbs and adjectives.

In Science, we will continue to learn about life cycles of animals and plants.

In Social Studies, we will continue to learn about Rome.

Please remember to sign the paper that came home with your child’s report card. It is important that I get it back to know if you would like a conference.
