Weekly Newsletter 08/31/09

**NOTES TO PARENTS**
On Wednesday, Sept 2nd is Dress Down Day. The cost is $1.00. Students may wear anything except flip-flops, spaghetti straps, muscle shirts, or anything with violence on it. If you do not want your child to participate in Dress Down Day your child may wear normal uniforms. Your child must pay a $1 if they dress down or they will be sent to the office to call for a change of clothing.
We have snack time at 10:30 Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. I do not provide snack for your child. You may give them snack to bring. Our lunch time is not until 12:05 p.m.

I will be conducting a weekly lesson on the 6 character traits. Our character trait for September is trustworthiness.
** WHAT WE ARE LEARNING**
In Phonics, we will concentrate on vowels.
In Math, we will use logical reasoning to solve a problem, divide squares into two and four equal parts, count dimes and nickels, and add 10 to a two-digit number and subtract 10 from a two-digit number.
In writing and language arts, we will continue our work on sentence structure.
In Science, we will be learning about light and sound.
In Social Studies, the class will learn about the land.

Tuesday - Use 10 words in a sentence
Wednesday - Write words in alphabetical order
Thursday - Study for spelling test
Friday - Spelling Test

August 24, 2009 Newsletter

**NOTES TO PARENTS**

We will start learning our multiplication tables soon. I am asking that every child bring in 2-100 packs of white index cards so the children can make their own flashcards. This will help them learn them by writing them and then actually using them to practice in the classroom. .
If you bring in a snack for the class it must be store bought. I appreciate any snacks you bring in for the class.
Open House will be on Wednesday from 6:00 -8:00 p.m. At the Open House you may preorder yearbooks for this school year. The Pima County Library will be on campus for you to sign up for your child’s library card. Also the Book Fair will be open.

In Math, identifying the properties of a rectangle, identifying and measuring the length and width of a rectangle, ordering two-digit numbers, identifying even and odd numbers, and having our first math test.
In writing and language arts, we will review sentence structure.
In Science, we will be learning about light and sound.
In Social Studies, the class will learn about different types of maps.
My grading marks mean the following: Check plus means the student got full credit for the assignment usually 3 points. Check and ½ means they received 2.5 points. A check means they received 2 points and a check minus means they received 1 point and must redo part of the assignment. 3 points is the most points that can be earned on an assignment.

Happy Friday!!

We made it through I our first full week of school. I am so proud of all my students. They are all adjusting well to the schedule. I want to thank all the parents for the supplies.

Weekly Newsletter 8/17/09

** WHAT WE ARE LEARNING**
In Phonics, we will review consonants and vowels.
In Math, we are reviewing telling time, graphing data on a bar graph, identifying digits and writing two-digit numbers, and identifying addends, sums, and the commutative property of addition.
In writing and language arts, we will review sentence structure.
In Science, we will be learning about light and sound.
In Social Studies, the class will learn about different types of maps.
During our reading time this year I will pull groups of students (usually 6 to 7 students) for 15 to 20 minute blocks of time. I will work with each group at their reading level. The other students will work at their tables. This week in Reading I will assess the students to determine which reading groups they will be placed in.

Also please make sure your child has a school planner. This will be used all year to keep up with homework and also as a communication tool between home and school. Parents need to sign homework planners nightly.
In your child’s folder today there are forms that you must review with your child. Please return these forms by Friday, August 21st.
